The Book “Voices against Hunger” – Launched


A book that brings together voices of key partners in the push to end global hunger was launched at the G20 conference earlier this month. Contributors to the book included Dr. Gerd Müller, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, Melinda Gates, Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President AGRA, Bärbel Dieckmann is President Welt- hungerhilfe, Prof. Joachim von Braun, Director of the Center for Development Research (ZEF), Bonn University and Dr. kanayo Nwanze, immediate former IFAD President.

In her chapter, “Smallholder Farmers Feeding the Continent and Driving Inclusive Growth”, Dr. Kalibata emphasised the role of agriculture as the proven path to prosperity and the surest bet for economic transformation and employment creation.
She outlined the key factors necessary to ensure that smallholder farming becomes a viable business for the 70 percent of the African population that are involved in stating that, “only when the aspirations of the smallholder farmers are met and their potential fully tapped, can the continent achieve an inclusive economic growth”.
