This is a Call for Application – Target Participants & Selection Criteria for the Africa Lead Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness Development Short Course

Africa Lead seeks individuals who are strongly dedicated to starting up or expanding an agri business and developing their country’s agriculture sector as a way of fostering broader economic development and agricultural transformation.

Eligible participants should be between the ages of 18-35 and they should:
i) an innovative agribusiness start up idea
ii) be a farmer and/ or agri-preneur engaged in some activity along the value chain
iii) actively managing a start –up an agribusiness and seeking to expand it
iv) a passion for entrepreneurship
v) strong desire to increase skills and knowledge in agri-business planning

 

Africa Lead is building on its existing Leadership Training program and envisions working with Youth, Women and Entrepreneurs to start up and expand agri-businesses along profitable value chains. The Feed the Future program of USAID supports the advancement of agriculture transformation in Africa and one of its mandate is to promote the inclusiveness of youth and women in the transformation process. A high demand exists among these target groups for skills and knowledge on how to identify, start and manage successful agribusinesses.

The goal of Africa Lead’s Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness Development short course is to develop the capacity of entrepreneurs in agribusiness identification, planning and management in order to strengthen startups and expand existing enterprises.

2. Challenges and Business Opportunities in Selected Value Chains (agribusiness development)
3. Developing a business idea (for youth and start-ups)
4. Business Planning a Tool for your success
5. The Importance of Identifying your Market
6. Carrying out a Market Research
7. Internal Management and Labour Requirements
8. The Importance of Good Record Keeping
9. Financial Management
10. Developing an Executive Summary of a Business Plan

Criteria
In our review of your application we will be looking for evidence of the following:

• Commitment to starting up or expanding an agricultural related enterprise
• Demonstrates an Entrepreneurial spirit or possesses characteristics of an entrepreneur
• Ability to pitch a feasible/innovative agri-business idea
• Diligent and Track record of success in entrepreneurial initiatives
• Results-oriented (setting goals and seeking to achieve them)
• Transformative leadership qualities,
• Honesty and integrity

Minimum Application requirement is a Verified Secondary School or Senior High Certificate/Diploma or higher degree
