A SYNOPSIS OF JAPAN/AFRICA BUSINESS FORUM

The Second Japan-Africa Business Forum held in Tokyo from July 25th to 26th and the overall theme was INVESTMENT IN BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN AFRICA, Olam was invited because of our part Japanese shareholding (20% Mitsubishi) and it was organized by the African Development Bank(AfDB) and the African Diplomatic Corp in Japan and Co-organized by JICA, Japan External Trade Organization(JETRO) and UNIDO.
The event was sponsored by a consortium of Japanese companies led by MUFG, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Toyota, Glory Ltd and of course Mitsubishi Corporation.
Our session which consisted of the Ministers of Trade of Malawi Hon Musa, that of Foreign affairs and Trade of Madagascar and the Africa Ceo for OCP of Morocco and Ade Adefeko. The event was moderated by Jennifer Blanke Vice President Agriculture, Human and Social Development.
My intervention centered around Olam’s forays in Africa in the last 28 years, the 25 countries we cover as well as the 2.5 million small holder farmers we support. Our African Origin and organic growth from Upstream to midstream and then downstream, Our partnerships with development finance institutions with development partners, NGOs as well as our social, economic, and environmental support.
Not forgetting our commitment to sustainability, Impacting livelihoods, and punting us as one of the first companies to export hulled sesame to JAPAN from Nigeria since 1995.
