A House of Representatives member, Ajibola Famurewa (Osun-APC), has advised the Federal Government to intensify efforts in funding the agriculture sector as part of rebuilding and diversifying the nation’s economy.

Famurewa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, that funding of the sector should not be based on one resource or a single means of raising funds.

He stressed that if more time and resources were devoted to agriculture and farmers supported, Nigerian would attain self sufficiency in food production.

“My advice to the Federal Government is for the President and his team to work more on agriculture sector so that we can feed ourselves and forget about importation of food.

“Let us devote more time and resources to agriculture, let us support the farmers so that we will be able to feed ourselves.

“Though government has been doing a lot in rebuilding the economy, I think it needs to put in more efforts in that direction because improvement in agriculture is part of rebuilding the economy and its diversification.

On whether Nigeria is out of recession or not, he said: “Statisticians have calculated a lot of things and in their own wisdom came to the conclusion that we are out of recession.

“ But the ordinary man on the street can only agree with the theory when he realises that the prices of things have come back to normal in the market.
