The Nigeria Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has created the measure for seed standardization to improve yield and boost food security.

The Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Chief Audu Ogbeh is in Kano State to inaugurate and flag off training for Seed Inspectors under the National Agricultural Seed Council of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for the Northern region.
This follows the inauguration and presentation of the instrument of office for seed inspectors in all the southern states of the Federation, conducted in October 2017 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The National Agricultural Seed Council has the responsibility of sensitizing and regulating standards in the Nigerian seed markets through several activities. Such activities include the seed market surveillance, enforcement of standards and educational sensitization of stakeholders in the seed industry. Through the Seed Inspectorate department of the Council, seed inspectors are to be spread across all the states of the federation including the FCT.
