Morocco, EU close to new fisheries agreement

The European Union and Morocco are aiming to “proceed with the ratification of a new fisheries agreement as soon as possible”, with the two sides expected to launch their respective legislative procedures this week, according to a EU spokeswoman

The fifth negotiating session between the two parties for the renewal of the fisheries partnership agreement and its protocol concluded on July 20, the spokeswoman also said.

“The work of this session enabled the two parties to agree on all the provisions and improvements of the texts, as well as on the maximization of benefits for the local populations of the areas concerned while respecting the principles of sustainability and equity,” she said.

“The Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union welcome the constructive spirit that prevailed in these negotiations, which confirms the commitment of both parties to strengthen their partnership in two strategic sectors: agriculture and sea fishing,” the EU spokeswoman said.
