The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Audu Ogbe has commissioned a 30 Metric Tonne per day processing plant for GB foods in Kaduna State.
The pilot farm has the capacity to grows over 15 different varieties of tomato with an average yield of 40-50 MT/ha. The processing plant is worth over 2 Billion Naira investment.
Hon. Ogbeh stated the Federal Government’s commitment towards Food Security and encouraging local production and processing of tomato.
He hinted that a ban on the importation of tomato paste is underway, as this would encourage local farmers in tomato paste production. He also added that Nigeria is targeting self-sufficiency in tomato paste production by the next two years.
GB Foods is a multinational food company with products in Spain, Italy, Russia and 30 countries in Africa and Asia. They are the producers of Gino brand, Bama mayonnaise, and Jago brand.
