World Water Day 2019: Leaving no one behind

Whoever you are, wherever you are, water is your human right.

World Water Day is an annual global event usually celebrated on 22nd March every year to create awareness on water resources management and also to evaluate the activities and partners in the sector.

The 2019 World Water day makes it twenty-six years of recognizing World Water Day. The theme for this year is Leaving no one behind, Leaving no one behind means Access for all- Water for all.

This World Water Day, 22nd March, is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind.

Water is significant in Agriculture and Food Production. On average, 80 percent of the freshwater withdrawn from rivers and groundwater is used to produce food and other agricultural products. This includes water used in the irrigation of crops or the watering of livestock, packaging etc.

The Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) – ‘Ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030’ – commits the world to ensure that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.
