The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) has launched the 2019 edition of OFAB Media Awards (OMA).

The awards ceremony scheduled for September 3, 2019, aims to acknowledge the works of media professional who will compete among themselves for the prestigious award.

The OFAB Media Awards which started in July 2017 has opened entries for eligible reporters to submit their stories for consideration

Qualifying entries should have been published or aired between July 30, 2018, to June 26, 2019.

The deadline for submitting entries is August 25, 2019. All entries are to be sent to the official email
ofabghana@outlook.com

OFAB, an initiative of the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), is a platform that provides an opportunity to enhance knowledge-sharing and awareness on agricultural biotechnology.

The Forum raises understanding and appreciation of the technology used in Agric to contribute to the building an enabling environment for informed and timely decision making.

OFAB Ghana engages with various stakeholders during conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings, key among them journalist, to bridge the gap between scientists on the one hand and policymakers as well as the public on the other.

Agriculture, science and technology being an integral part of Ghana’s development agenda, OFAB believes journalist as key players in achieving these must be acknowledged for their contribution.

OFAB encourages journalists to cover more agriculture and biotechnology stories in bringing development to the front burner of national discourse.

The award aims at recognizing exemplary journalism that stimulates best practices in the adoption of agricultural technologies;, particularly agricultural biotechnology.

For this year’s award, journalists will be competing in three categories for the Agricultural/Biotechnology journalist of the year.

There are Print and Online – Newspapers, Magazine and Online, radio and Television.
Interested journalists are to submit their stories include with:
I. A brief synopsis (about 150 words) of the stories submitted (Max 3 stories for each category)
II. About 150-word professional biography
III. A  brief 200-word piece explaining the motivation for each story submitted
IIII. Digital passport size photo and
V. A copy of national ID/Passport.
VI. Evidence of Media Accreditation/Membership of a National Media Association.

The OFAB secretariat has said key considerations for choosing winners will be scientific accuracy in reporting biotech-related stories, initiative, originality, clarity of interpretation and value in fostering a better public understanding of Agricultural Biotechnology and its impact.

Apart from the amazing prizes that winners stand to enjoy there is also an opportunity to represent Ghana at OMA Africa.
