The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) would flagoff the 2020 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW).

Theme: Let’s Handle Antimicrobials With Care.

As part of the activities to commemorate the Antibiotic Awareness Week from 18th-24th Nov 2020, the Agric Ministry in collaboration with the UN FAO Nigeria is Flagging-off the 2020 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week with hashtag #WAAW2020

In order to create awareness on the threats of antimicrobial resistance to human, animal and environmental health, the Tripathite World Health Organisation (WHO) Nigeria, FAO and OIE Animal Health has set aside the second week in November every year to increase awareness on antimicrobial resistance globally and to encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policymakers to avoid the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

According to FMARD, Nigeria has been commemorating the antibiotics awareness week since 2017. The Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services of the Ministry is planning activities to mark the 2020 World Antibiotics Awareness Week (WAAW).
