The European Union is ready to invest in Egypt’s food security, water, and sanitation (WASH) programs.

During a joint press conference with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on June 15th, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU will support Egypt’s food security with an immediate relief of €100 million to offer credit for rural companies and farmers.

As a result, amid the continuing Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which has halted grain deliveries around the world, the EU will support investment in local food production, according to von der Leyen.

She also stated that the EU would invest €3 billion in agricultural, nutrition, water, and sanitation programs in the region over the next few years.
