The Agriculture Machinery and Development Institute (AMEDI), which will be located in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, is currently being built by the federal government.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, officially broke ground for the Agriculture Machinery and Development Institute in Lafia.

The Chief of Staff stated that the Agriculture Machinery Institute will define how technology would be used throughout the nation when laying the groundwork for its creation.

He insisted that the federal government will continue to make every effort to assist the Nasarawa State administration and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in advancing technology in the nation.

“We will sustain a positive collaboration with Nasarawa State throughout the duration of this government and beyond,” he declared. Our doors will stay open and we will do all within our power to ensure that the cooperation with Nasarawa State and the rest of the nation in terms of technology is successful.

Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, stated that the foundation of AMEDI in Lafia was founded on his conviction that knowledge transfer, skill development, job creation, and youth empowerment will result in a radical transformation of the state.

He continued by saying that the agricultural machineries institution would also develop the state’s agriculture value chain, which could only be done by consistently utilizing science, engineering, and talents.

Therefore, he extended his gratitude to President Buhari and the federal government for selecting Nasarawa to be the site of the great project that would benefit everyone.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Prof. Mohammed Haruna, stated that AMEDI was a component of the agency’s execution strategy for President Buhari’s directions to effectively intervene in agriculture and use technology to transform farming and food processing.

The food value chain, which includes cultivation, planting, weeding, harvesting, post-harvesting, and food preservation, has been successfully developed by NASENI.

“As stated by President Buhari, “This institute is tasked to build on this success and serve as a final site for the fulfillment of the agreement on agriculture between Nigeria and the Czech republic.”
