An awards ceremony was organized by Ghana Veg at the end of the second edition of the vegetable expo for stakeholders in the vegetable production and export value chain. The awards seek to reward outstanding performances and contributions by the various stakeholders.

Present at the ceremony was the Minister for Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and the Netherlands high commissioner to Ghana H.E Ron Striker.

The Netherlands high commissioner, H.E Ron Striker, lauded the planting for food and jobs initiative by the government to boost agriculture in Ghana. He further promised commitment in helping farmers meet the best practices to help lift the vegetable ban that vegetable producers in Ghana have been slammed with.

His Excellency Ron Striker said plans were underway to address the issue of lack of financing among the farmers to help boost production as well as activities in the sector.
The Minister for Agriculture, Dr Afriyie Akoto, said his ministry was doing all in it power to have the nation back on the vegetable export market.

Award winners at the closing ceremony included Joekopan Limited who took best new product for export market, Eden tree limited for Best business innovation, AB farms for Most sustainable business, Kukobila Nasia farms for Most inclusive business, Tikola Limited for best new product (domestic), Lubok farms for most vibrant and growing business and Food masters for best booth at the expo.

Some awardees called on government to address challenges in the industry with the high cost of power being top of the chart as cold storage is key for preserving the fruits and vegetables produced.
