Multi-Stakeholder Workshop on National Agriculture Investment Planin line with CAADP-Malabo Declaration for Nigeria.

Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and stakeholders is already playing a major role in advocating for the agriculture sector to remain very high for economic diversification. An Agriculture Promotion Policy, the Green Alternative has been launched which will serve as the foundation for the formulation of a New National Agriculture Investment Plan (NAIP). Nigeria has been identified as one of the “Phase 1” countries  for appraising the existing NAIP and more importantly formulating a new NAIP that is Malabo compliant in a country led process.

In the light of the above, a technical team from AUC-DREA, NEPAD Agency, EAC and COMESA together with technical agencies AGRA, IFPRI, FAO, AFRICA LEAD,  in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG) and Stakeholder groups and associations are organizing a multi-stakeholder consultation workshop which commenced deliberations yesterday 22nd February 2017 at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja  . The Workshop is expected to last till 24, February 2017.

The outcomes from the workshop shall be:

  1. a roadmap detailing deliverable’s, responsibilities per engaged partners, timeframes toward new NAIP Formulation;
  2. coordination mechanism of the roadmap; and
  3. communication mechanism between the Country, REC, NPCA and AUC.

This mission is fully supported by African Union Commission. The AUC mission is led by Mr Ernest RUZINDAZA, Senior Advisor and CAADP Team Leader at AUC-DREA together with Dr Augustin Wambo Yamedjeu, CAADP Head at NPCA.
